        The precursor of Schooll of Energy and Power Engineering is the  Department of Power Engineering, one of three earliest divisions  established by our university. And it was independent from others in  2011. With its development about 70 years, the highlights have been  formed in many fields, such as marine engineering, marine power plant,  control of cabin environment, control of noise and vibration, renewable  energy and saving energy, etc.
         The Schooll currently has four master's degree authorization  centers--power engineering, marine engineering, heat and gas and  ventilation and air conditioning engineering, hydro-acoustic  engineering; two engineering masters training fields--naval architecture  and ocean engineering, civil engineering and architecture; four  full-time undergraduate majors--energy and power engineering, marine  engineering, building environment and energy application engineering,  nuclear technique and engineering; three adult educational bachelor  programs; two upgrade bachelor programs and three specialized  professional programs of which “Marine Engineering” is the key  construction field of provincial key major and superior disciplines  “Naval Architecture and Ocean”. “Energy and Power Engineering” is the  Schooll-level characteristic major. “Building Environment and Energy  Application Engineering” is key major of Jiangsu Province. The Schooll  undertakes three Province-level engineering centers--engineering  technology center of marine air-conditioning and refrigeration of  Jiangsu Province, engineering technology center of marine measurement  and control of Jiangsu Province engineering technology center of marine  vibration damping equipment of Jiangsu Province, 7  graduate workstation of enterprises of Jiangsu Province.
         The School comprises three divisions: department of marine  engineering, department of power engineering, department of man-made  environment; one student’s engineering training center; five research  institutions: institute of marine engineering, institute of noise and  vibration, institute of power machinery and engineering, institute of  air conditioning refrigeration and building energy conservation,  institute of new energy technology and equipment. It includes the dean  office, academic office and student’s affairs office. There are in total  50 staff members, including 7 professors, 15 associate professors, 1  senior experimentalist and 19 lecturers or experimentalists. 1 leader of  the “Blue Project” team in Jiangsu Province; 1 young and middle-aged  leader of the “333 Project”; 1 high-level personnel training in Jiangsu  Province; 1 young and middle-aged academic leaders of “Blue Project”; 2  outstanding young teachers of “Blue Project”. It formed a Reasonable  structure of teaching staff and characteristic academic echelons. The  research ability of the Schooll is enhanced constantly. With the  advantages in the shipbuilding industry, the Schooll set up a scientific  research system united fundamental research, application research in  advance and engineering application. It has undertaken more 100  commercial research or public and government-sponsored research  projects, including National Natural Science Foundation, National  Defense Pre-research Foundation, Natural Science Foundation. Of Jiangsu,  Project of the Significant Transformation of Scientific and  Technological Achievements of Jiangsu, etc. It was awarded 40 various  scientific research achievements or invention patents.
         The Schooll has a provincial experimental teaching demonstration  center--Center of student’s engineering training, a Schooll-level  experimental teaching demonstration center--energy and power engineering  center. Under the engineering training center, there are 5 labs: basic  thermotechnical lab, power plant lab, building environment and energy  application engineering lab, noise and vibration lab. At present, there  is a comprehensive experimental bench for testing performance of marine  diesel engine and auxiliary equipment; a platform for monitoring and  diagnosing the performance of marine power plant; a combustion analysis  system for power plant; portable infrared gas analyzer; an Integrated  simulation operating system for marine engineering; a virtual reality 3D  visualization of digital systems for marine engineering; a enthalpy  difference lab; a German-made portable VCR thermal imager; a Danish-made  B & K test and analysis system for vibration and noise; an  experimental bench of vibration compacting; an anechoic chamber ect. The  labs are equipped with High performance computing service cluster  workstation and softwares such as STAR-CD、AVL EXITE(POWER  UNITE)、BOOST、FIRE、NASTRAN、ANSYS、COMSOL Multiphysics and so on.
         At present, the Schooll has about 1, 000 undergraduates and  postgraduates. It cooperates with China Unicom, the Pacific Shipbuilding  Corp. Ltd., GL Education Trust, Kyle of welding Ltd., NK to set up the  scholarships. The School Pays attention to cultivating practical and  innovative abilities and expanding students' comprehensive qualities so  that the students strong in those regards would receive favourable  comments from the employers. The average employment rate is above 98%  each year.
