        The School of Foreign Languages, JUST, is formerly known as the  English Department of East China Shipbuilding Institute. It was renamed  the School of Foreign Languages in 2005. Currently, it consists of  branches including:  the English Department, ESL(English as a Second  Language), English Teaching for Undergraduates, ESL English Teaching for  Graduates, Foreign Language Training Center, Experimental Center of  Foreign Language Teaching and Phonetics, Institute of Applied  Linguistics, Institute of Pearl S. Buck Studies and Institute of Foreign  Literature.
         The School has a comptent and devoted staff who have an  international outlook and the staff members are well-educated,  professional, competent, dedicated and energetic. There are 98 full-time  teachers in the school. Among them, there are 2 professors, 23  associate professors and 71 lecturers.
         In the School, there are 15 standardized language laboratories,  two web-assisted self-access learning centers, one phonetic science  laboratory at the internationally advanced level, one experimental and  training demonstration center for comprehensive language skills, one  multi-model language training center, one business English negotiations  & simultaneous interpretation laboratory, one automatic phonetic  & conversation testing platform and one online automatic English  compositions testing platform, which in all cover an floor area of more  than 1,600 m2 and have been installed with over 5,000,000 Yuan’s worth  of fixed assets (totaling 280 articles). 
         The School started to enroll undergraduates on a 4-year program  in 2001. In September, 2007, it started to enroll postgraduates majoring  in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. Now it has a student  population of over 300, including both undergraduates and postgraduates.
         Nowadays, technological innovation, cultural inheritance, talent  cultivation and society service have become the basic duties of  contemporary universities. Based on the integration of Chinese and  Western cultures, ancient and modern civilizations, the School of  Foreign languages of JUST is moving toward a bright future with a open  mind and vigorous strides.
