June 1-8, Zhenjiang,to consolidate and expandinternational partnerships, enhancing the level of internationalization of JUST,Secretary Ge Shilun led a delegation to visit LaTrobe University (LTU) and University of Auckland (UA) by invitation. The visitreached consensuses on innovative cooperative education model, new educationcooperation programs, joint training of high-level talents, and establishmentof overseas alumni association.
LTU and JUST started the undergraduateeducation cooperation program on the major of Business Administration in 2004.Over the past 15 years, the program has enrolled 1265 students. Among them, 843students have graduated, 459 students chose to study in LTU for other twoyears. About 90% of the students who went to Australia for undergraduate studyapplied for further study in world famous universities after they got bachelordegree. Entrusted by president of Prof. John Dewar, delegation of LTU,including vice president Ms. Natalie MacDonald, vice President Simon Evens, deanProf. Chris Pakes of graduate school, dean Prof. Jane Hamiton and vice deanProf. Suzanne Young of school of business, Dean Prof. Henry Duha of computerdepartment, and staff of international office, held intensive discussion with JUSTdelegation. Both sides shared major achievements in recent years and summarizedthe 15-year cooperation effect on two sides. Both parts proposed that the 15-yearcooperation was fruitful and agreed to investigate the 3 +1 joint bachelordegree program on the major of the Extending Business Data Analysis, andestablished a doctoral joint training program. LUT delegation also said theywould help to establish the Melbourne alumni association. The two sides reachedan agreement on expanding cooperation soon,making it an achievement for the celebration of the 15th anniversary to be heldin the second half of this year.
UA is one of the Top 100 universitiesin the world. JUST has established cooperation with UA in materials science andengineering. Vice dean Prof. Parthasarathi Roop of Engineering School, AcademicianGao Wei of New Zealand Royal Academy of science & outstanding scientist ofmaterial science, Prof. Cao Peng, dean of the department of chemical andmaterials engineering and Prof. Hu Aiguo of Electrical and Computer EngineeringDepartment extent a friendly and in-depth discussion with JUST delegation. Bothsides agreed that two sides can extend 3 + 1 + 1 program in material science basedon existing education cooperation. Academician Gao Wei expressed willingness torecommend more excellent doctoral graduates from UA to work in JUST.
During the visit to Australia, JUSTdelegation also participated in the Australian Chinese doctor salon andintroduced discipline distribution, school-running characteristics and workingconditions of JUST to over 30 doctors from different Australian universities.The doctors showed great interest in the school-running characteristics andworking conditions of JUST.
The delegation also visited thegraduate representatives, on-study students and visiting teachers of JUSTChina-Australia program. Secretary Ge held a warm talk with them on study, workand life and drew suggestions for improvement of quality of the program.Secretary Ge profoundly summarized the huge advantage and outstandingcontributions of education internationalization in the innovative talenttraining mode, and encouraged them to stay true to the mission to win honor forJUST.
