June 12-13, Zhenjiang, JUST First English TeachingCompetition for Youth Teachers was held in international building, east campus.Vice President Jiang Pengmingand representatives from office ofacademic affairs, International Office and School of Overseas Educationobserved and guided on the spot.
In order to further promote the construction of the teachingstaff of foreign students, improving English teaching skills, the InternationalOffice and School of Overseas Education launched the first English teachingcompetition for youth teachers in May this year. 16 teachers outstood over 200teachers and entered in final competition. The judging panel consists of fiveexperts, headed by Prof. Lu Sheng, Dean of School of Foreign Languages.
The competition lasted for one day, and each participatortaught 20 minutes. After careful preparation, on the spot of the competition, theparticipators won the applause of the judges by means of curriculum design withdistinct themes, fluent English expression, diverse teaching means, prominentblackboard writing, heuristic teaching and active and effective teacher-studentinteraction, which fully demonstrated the style of young teachers. Finally, TanFangli from School of Foreign Languages and Wang Lijuan from School of ComputerScience won the first prize. Xi Caiping and other five teachers won the secondprize; Bian Ting and other seven teachers won the third prize. Tan Fangli andother four teachers won the Best Curriculum Award.
Prof. Lu Sheng, head of the judging team, made a brilliantcomment after the competition, pointing out that the competition fullydemonstrated teachers' teaching style, fluent English expression standards,solid teaching basic skills, diverse teaching methods, skilled use of teachingmeans, and strong classroom control ability. It reflects the high level ofEnglish teaching of young teachers of JUST. He also points out that there aresome shortcomings in the lectures and hope improvement in future teaching.
Vice President Jiang Pengming gave full recognition to thiscompetition. He expressed his congratulations to the award-winning teachers,believing that this contest is a review of the level of English teaching forforeign students in JUST. He hopes that all teachers will continue to makefurther efforts to devote themselves to the training of overseas students withmore enthusiasm, so as to cultivate more overseas students who know and loveChina.
