Sept-21, Zhenjiang Sponsored by Education Instruction Commission of Jiangsu Province and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, 2019 Jiangsu Postgraduate Academic Innovation Forum on Polar Science and Ocean Engineering and the International Symposium on Polar Ship and Ocean Engineering was held in JUST. More than 20 well-known experts and scholars from the United States, Britain, Russia, Norway, Sweden and other polar fields. More than 80 graduate students from 18 research institutes of Harbin Engineering University, Hehai University, Nanjing University of Technology, Sun Yat-sen University and China Ship Science Research Center, participated in the academic seminar.
Prof Ji Chunyan, vice president of JUST, delivered the welcoming speech. She introduced that the Postgraduate Academic Innovation Forum is an indispensable link in training high-level innovative talents and also an important measure and effective way to improve the quality of postgraduate training. The International Symposium on Polar Ships and Marine Engineering is another international symposium on polar areas after the International Symposium on Ships in Ice Regions hosted by the University in 2015, which aims to carry out academic discussions in polar areas, further enhance the understanding of future development. The forum condensed the key points of science and technology, providing postgraduates with an international perspective, as well as enhanced the ability of theoretical innovation and strengthened exchanges and cooperation.
The conference was held in thematic reports. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Wu Guoxiong, Yangtse River Scholar of JUSR, delivered a report.
The Forum and the Symposium were held at the same time. The Forum was divided into six sub-forums, in which postgraduates reported and exchanged their research achievements in Polar Environment and Ice Load, Polar Ship and Ocean Engineering, Ship and Ocean Engineering Hydrodynamics, Ship and Offshore Engineering Structural Safety and other topics. The Symposium on Polar Ships and Ocean Engineering was presented by George Wang, Xiandong Ma, Vitaly L. Zemlyak, Vladimir V. YAKIMOV and other well-known international experts and scholars.
In recent years, the research team led by Prof. Wu Guoxiong of JUST has made huge research progress around the basic theory of ship and marine engineering hydrodynamics, and published a series of research results in international well-known journals in the field of hydrodynamics, which provides important theoretical support for the research and development of polar ship and marine equipment in China, and also paves the path for the exploration of polar resources.
